About the Author: Thoughts about Gozzi from the Company of Rep Term XVI

Carlo Gozzi, author of The Green Bird, was an 18th century playwright whose work stemmed from the commedia dell'arte tradition. His plots are filled with magic, fantastic twists, and a comic character named Truffaldino who's almost always searching for food.

Gozzi wrote The Green Bird, which will be performed by the company of Rep Term XVI; in Seminar, we've studied five of his plays in great detail - which is more than most people can say! So what do the students of Rep Term XVI's company have to say about the playwright's work?

"He's got quite the imagination!" - Rebekah Heusel, junior

"Where normal people wouldn't think to go, he goes! Not even the sky's the limit for Gozzi." - Oakton Reynolds, sophomore

"I find Carlo Gozzi's relationship with his contemporary and 'rival' Carlo Goldoni fascinating, especially after reading one of Goldoni's plays for comparison. The just couldn't agree about how commedia should move forward as an art form." - Sam Auch, sophomore

"He was very aware of the trends in theatre and wanted to make sure the charm and tradition of commedia was not lost." - Bridget Golembiewski, sophomore
